The inaugral Capricorn Coast Writers Festival is bringing together the region’s writers, wannabe wordsmiths, book nerds and literature lovers on May 31 to June 2 in Yeppoon.

Festival director Nene Davies - author of several books including most recently Whitethorne - says the committee can’t wait to share their event.

“We are thrilled to launch the Capricorn Coast Writers Festival - a first for our region,” Ms Davies says. “It’s been quite the journey and we’re on the fast track to our 31 May Festival opening.

“We’ve been blown away by the positivity and encouragement from the whole community.”

Nene says local writers have been coming out of the woodwork wanting to tell their stories.

“People have emailed us and stopped us in the street, to tell us they’ve always wanted to write but haven’t known where to start.

“Emerging writers, people who read, people who want to learn how to write, people who want to be surrounded by others who love reading and writing: we’ve been so pleased to hear from everyone and we can’t wait to share the first Capricorn Coast Writers Festival with them all.”

Festival events, from talks by published writers to workshops for those hoping to make the dream happen, are now available for booking.

The festival is also looking for volunteers, and donations towards making the weekend happen. To find out more or get involved, drop them a line on Facebook.
