Anything Goes ready to dock in Gladstone for 2019 community musical

It’s been 20 years since the SS American docked in Gladstone, but the ship at the centre of the Broadway classic is back for the Harbour City’s 2019 community musical Anything Goes.

Original cast members Pamela Penny, Jennifer Garrett and Donna Newberry are three of the four cast members from the 1990s version back on board for another adventure. They explain how the new production compares:

Gladstone Region Councillor Desley O’Grady said crowds will be left in awe as they set sail aboard this musical adventure.

“The entire stage will be transformed into the S.S American and the ship will contain the live 17-piece orchestra within the mezzanine floor area,” Cr O’Grady says.

“This is a truly unique set design by veteran Central Queensland set designer Ross James.”

Ross is the mastermind behind many an amazing set, including the ‘flying’ car used in recent productions of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in both Rockhampton and Gladstone.

“The 2019 production’s choreographer, Marj Rampton, was also the choreographer from 1999,” Cr O’Grady says.

“There are so many family connections in this production, both on the stage and behind the scenes.

“It’s great to see an event like this bring not only community members together, but family members too.”

Anything Goes docks at the Gladstone Entertainment & Convention Centre February 21 to 24.
