Biloela student shaves her head for cancer research in honour of lost family friend
On Friday September 6, eleven-year-old Biloela State School student Lara Dumbleton will shave her head in support of cancer research.
This is not just to raise funds for such a worthy cause but in honour of a dear family friend who passed away on Christmas Day 2018.
“Naomi was like my Aunty,” Lara said. “She died from cancer and I wanted to help other families not to have to go through that.”
Lara has been amazed by the kindness and generosity of her supporters. She set her fundraising goal at $500 and has passed her goal already with nearly a week still to go.
While the year six student does admit she is a little scared about shaving her head her focus is on what will be achieved as a result, with her long locks destined for wigs for others.
“It’s making the children happy that they will have hair because they’ll have a wig,” Lara said.
Michelle Duncan and her team at Bombshell Hair and Makeup have kindly donated the cut as their contribution to the cause.
“The cut will be free as a little gift from me for being so thoughtful,” Michelle said.
The hair will be donated to Hair Aid, an Australian charity which makes wigs for not only cancer patients but for people suffering from hair loss related incidents such as alopecia.

.“I’m hoping for a cancer free world,” Lara said.
