New music: Kate Mahood
Capricorn Coast singer-songwriter Kate Mahood has released a new song Endangered Species, inspired by a native bird species under threat from habitat loss due to mining.
“Many of our native birds are currently endangered<“ Kate says. “One such species is the black-throated finch (southern subspecies), a tiny bird already declared extinct in NSW, whose last remaining habitat is now under direct threat from controversial mining giant Adani.
“If construction of Adani’s proposed Carmichael mine goes ahead in the Galilee basin, thousands of hectares of the finch’s last remaining habitat will be destroyed.
“This is extremely likely to push this vulnerable species over the brink and into extinction.”
Kate wrote Endangered Species after learning about the finch’s plight in 2014, and recorded it last year.
